Save The Date – The Wedding Season Is Upon Us

Spring has finally arrived to Europe, and so has the Wedding Season. We had a look into the current trends in wedding invitations, and the ever so popular Save-The-Date cards. It doesn’t matter if you’re a young bride planning your own wedding, someone who’s just been asked to save the date or you’re just looking for some inspiration, these trends make you catch the wedding fever. We certainly did!

Normally the first indication of the wedding for the guest is the Save the Date card, which basically gives the guest a heads-up of the upcoming event. It is meant to just let people know so they can clear their calendars on that point in time – hence “Save the Date”. The actual official invitation, usually arriving 1-2months prior to the wedding which normally asks the guest to R.S.V.P. It is not mandatory to send both ones, but the Save the Date card has become more popular recently.

Even though wedding designs, such as the invitations, are often thought of as bit of a bore design vice, the times have certainly changed. Most often the invitation or Save the Date cards are very well thought out and designed to be the first clue about the theme and style of the wedding. People want the guests to get a feel of the couple in question, and that the cards represent their style. Also different shapes are incorporated, as well as unconventional delivering methods.

Surprisingly (or not) one of the biggest trends at the moment is the use of brown recycled paper, such as SH Recycling, and many variations of it. Besides the material being environmentally friendly, it is very down to earth and gives a touch of personality to the invite. It’s a breath of fresh air between the thousands of clear or ivory white classic cards. A more modern and young approach to the design.

Following the recycled paper theme is the mock wood invites. It seems that the reference to nature and eco-friendly approach is very trendy at the moment. We’ve seen many variations of this trend, but the ones with simple designs that really showcase and bring out the wooden texture of the material, are definitely our favorites.

In the more classic designs, letterpress is the way to personalize your invites. If you still love the white, light colors and subtle designs, this techniques is perfect to add that little bit of extra. It gives the design a more luxurious feel, keeping with the classic style. It goes perfectly with romantic designs as well as trendy pastel colors.

Upon our research we noticed how the olden times or old school style, has come back into fashion. The cards and invitations are designed to look and remind us of the good old days, similar to carnivals or old posters. The look if very fitting to a young couple with a more daring style. The designs are often more humorous and easy going, telling a lot about the actual event.wedding-posters

Of course also the trend colors of the spring can be seen in the designs. Besides the use of recycled paper or wooden tones, the current pastels and brights are in style. This spring’s favorite, mint, looks amazing on these modern invites. A smart touch is to add the map to the venue in the design, while keeping the style cohesive. Some of our favorites are the designs that mix the trend of letterpress with the very current use of bright neon colors. Just so quirky and cheerful, definitely puts you in a part mood!

Another trend we noticed is that the shapes, packaging and delivering methods have become more unusual and imaginative. Some invites are made into coasters, or other more suprising shapes (see main photo). Some are made in the form of a newspaper, headlining the the couples life. This idea is mixed with the previously mentioned old school style in the photo below – very romantic, and makes a perfect gift to the guests to remember the wedding. One of the most intricate and inspiring invites is a self-made record player made of paper that plays the a song  as an invite. Check out the video below and be amazed!

We wish you all a happy wedding season and best wishes to all the brides and grooms out there!
