Originally hailing from Germany, having studied in Vienna and now based in New York, artist and illustrator Peter Phobia creates dewy colored work inspired by pop culture and everyday life observations. Having worked with brands such as Absolut, i-D, and MQ Vienna, his work has hung in galleries across numerous cities around the globe, and now, can be enjoyed between the covers of a new book; FACTS & FICTION. The collection of his recent gallery work is published by a Viennese contemporary publication house POOL with a focus on illustration, graphic design and photography.
FACTS & FICTION invites the reader to reflect on contemporary social phenomena without judging from a specific point of view, an on-going theme recognizable in Phobia’s work. With a uniquely raw drawing style combining illustration with text, and his observant take on the environment around him, Phobia turns mundane scenarios into thought-provoking observations. There is a lightness to his work which comes from the dreamy, somewhat restrained color schemes, yet it captivates in its familiarity, comparable to a memory you yourself once had.
