The Zehner Stiege (eng. The Tenth Staircase), a coffee shop located right next to the ASKÖ sports grounds in Vienna’s 15th district, serves everyone from athletes to families, students, passersby, and nearby garden owners – simply everyone. Opened in autumn 2024, the cafe serves specialty drinks and homemade lemonades, classic Austrian snacks, and handmade panini variations, as well as coffee, ice cream, and cakes from the nearby Speiseamt Seestadt restaurant. The atmosphere in the coffee shop is cosy, retro-style, and fully accessible as people with and without disabilities work together at Zehner Stiege to serve and take care of their guests.
Zehner Stiege is more than a charming local café. It’s a space of inclusion, warmth, and community spirit. This ethos is reflected not only in the staff and menu, but also in the thoughtful details — like the sandwich wrap paper.
As part of Wienwork — a non-profit social enterprise committed to providing training and employment for people with disabilities and those long-term unemployed—the Zehner Stiege is more than a charming local café. It’s a space of inclusion, warmth, and community spirit. This ethos is reflected not only in the staff and menu, but also in the thoughtful details — like the sandwich wrap paper.

Sandwiches wrapped in lahnur®
In line with their values of sustainability and quality, the Zehner Stiege team opted for lahnur®, a paper packaging material made from over 80% renewable raw materials, to wrap their homemade panini and other snacks. The paper’s tactile, uncoated surface gives it a natural, honest feel — perfectly echoing the handmade, heartfelt food served inside. More than just looks, lahnur® delivers on functionality, offering partial greaseproof protection and full ISEGA certification for direct contact with dry, moist, and fatty foods. This makes it a smart, food-safe choice for cafes and restaurants seeking sustainable alternatives without compromising on performance or appearance. A distinctive look by Brutstädt
The playful, inviting identity of Zehner Stiege —including the cheerful logo and printed packaging design — was created by Dana Liv Bayomy from design studio Brutstädt, who has been collaborating with Wienwork since 2021. Bayomy is behind the full corporate design and identity for Wienwork and its sub-brands, including Zehner Stiege, resulting in a cohesive visual language that balances professionalism with friendliness.
The wrap design itself reflects the café’s retro flair and inclusive spirit, turning every sandwich into a branded, take-away piece of the Zehner Stiege experience. The custom-printed lahnur® wrapping paper was four-color digital printed, giving the design a crisp finish before the sheets were precision-cut using a stack cutter — a process that allows for efficiency and consistency in everyday café operations.
