Lahnur® in depth: here’s answers to the most frequently asked questions
lahnur® isn’t a standard paper — it’s a distinctive material with a higher tear strength, better moisture resistance and a special haptic. Soft like textile, yet functionally robust — and fully recyclable.
Our product is primarily based on natural and renewable raw materials. Its main component is high-quality pulp, complemented by pulp-based fibers. Natural minerals such as kaolin and chalk are used in small amounts for refinement. A carefully balanced binder system provides the necessary strength — with minimal use of technical additives.
lahnur® was specifically developed for recyclability and is certified according to the PTS method PTS-RH:021/97. Designed for durability and circularity, lahnur® is not biodegradable and cannot be fully composted without residues. However, it is made from more than 85% naturally sourced raw materials. The fibers used in the product are exclusively biobased and originate from sustainably and transparently managed sources — confirmed by FSC certification.
lahnur® is significantly more durable than traditional paper and offers excellent moisture resistance. Short-term outdoor use is fine — prolonged exposure to water and physical stress should be avoided.
✓ Offset, laser, thermal transfer, latex, flexo, screen and UV printing — all deliver excellent results.
✓ Digital printing with HP Indigo — generally possible when using a suitable primer, though not officially certified.
✗ Water-based and eco-solvent inks — not suitable
At Europapier, we stock all three standard grammages: 110, 150 and 200 g/m2 Lahnur is available in one colour: white, and it has a rough, uncoated surface.
The standard stock size in sheets: 70 x 100 cm.
Reels are also available, upon request.

Lahnur® put to the test: what do customers think?
And now let’s get down to the most important question: What do our customers think about lahnur? Is it meeting their needs, and if so, in which ways? We would love to get more opinions, so please feel free to reach out to hello@designandpaper.com and let us know your experience with this innovative material.
Lahnur was love at first touch – light, textured, and impressively robust. For The Mountain Dreamer, it was the perfect material to add a high-quality, sensory experience to our sensitive message.

Book Project. The Mountain Dreamer (Austria): Author Jeannette Stockinger & Publisher: Dieter Halama – Verlag Villa Wiental – Spaces for Dreams
It was love at first touch! Lahnur is the perfect realization of Jeannette Stockinger’s ambitious vision for Die Bergträumerin – A Travel Companion to Yourself: highly sensitive messages wrapped in a visually and tactilely appealing garment – light, yet firm and of lasting robustness.
So it was only natural for us to once again choose Lahnur for printing the newly released English edition, The Mountain Dreamer – A Travel Companion to Yourself. Thanks to the high-quality offset printing of Generál Druckerei Szeged, the paper’s unique texture is preserved.
The fact that our heartfelt project ultimately – quite unintentionally – became the world’s very first book produced entirely with Lahnur, from the core to the endpapers and cover material, is something we are especially proud of. All the more wonderful that the message of The Mountain Dreamer is now also finding its way into the paper industry through Europapier and lahnpaper.

Lahnur feels almost libe fabric – alive, soft, expressive. For The Garden of Earthly Delights, it’s more than paper. It became part of the story.
Sveta Kaverina, Author
We needed a paper that performs in digital printing while also making a statement. Lahnur was the obvious choice – aesthetic, sustainable, and full of character.

What drew you to lahnur® and using this paper to bring your book to life?
SK: “Lahnur® is similar to textile, like silkscreen printing; it is very tactile and works wonderfully with the canvas book cover of the book Garden of Earthly Delights.”
B: “When I first held the printed color proof on Lahnur paper, I was immediately enchanted. It still feels like paper, but with a touch that’s so alive and breathable — you can even crumple it a bit. Later, I learned that it’s eco-friendly and recyclable, which fits perfectly with the author’s concept for the book.
Our publishing house focuses on small print runs, with books that have complex designs, are funded by the authors, and are intended for exhibitions, competitions, collectors and art markets. This means we’re limited to digital printing. One of the well-known challenges of digital printing is that ink often leaves a glossy sheen on the paper’s surface. The creative community — myself included — works to avoid or minimize this effect.
I explored several types of paper that stood out to me for their texture, many of which I hadn’t worked with before. Among them was Lahnur, whose feel I instantly fell in love with. I tested all these papers, and for Sveta Kaverina’s book, Lahnur was the clear choice.”

Lahnur combines two qualities that are essential for our orchards: it’s weather-resistant and 100% recyclable – exactly what we need for harvest season. Plastic is not an option. After successfully enquiring about such a material by numerous printer (and being held for crazy), I found it myself and asked our regional printer to order it.
