Yeni Kim, the founder of March Studio, embodies that transformative power. As Korea’s first paper illustrator and set designer, she has spent the past decade perfecting a craft where paper becomes imagination made real.

Originating from crafting her path in Seoul, Kim explored art and fashion before discovering her unique niche: paper. She embraced paper’s comfort, delicacy, and endless potential. “I work to warm the world by using paper” — a phrase that sums up both her mission and aesthetic. Today, based in Michigan, she finds inspiration in everyday peace: the open skies, quiet rhythms, and gentle landscapes that contrast with the bustle and hustle of Seoul and infuse her creative process with fresh energy and reflection.

Miniature worlds immersed in detail
Perhaps one of Kim’s most enchanting works is her 3D paper sculpture of the Luxembourg Garden in Paris, created in celebration of the 2024 Paris Olympics. This delicate miniaturization stands as a testament to her meticulous method and boundless creativity. Using a mix of laser-cut precision and hand-cut finesse, she brings entire landscapes to life in paper form. Her thorough process from sketching to the final product involves both laser-cutting and hand-cutting, and especially careful selection of papers.
But Kim isn’t just an artist, she’s a teacher, too. Her creative vision extends into DIY paper craft kits, designed to bring the experience of creating into homes. These kits, like her paper plant trio, favor lasting decorative charm over fleeting novelty. They’ve delighted individuals and inspired brands to commission workshops, where attendees shape paper into paper flowers, wreaths, and small interiors for group learning and artistic connection.
