Fabrik Printing House’s Carefully Crafted Paper Goods Turn Ideas Into Something Special

FABRIK, an interdisciplinary printing house in Bucharest, Romania, brings together today’s technology with traditional printing and finishing techniques. Working by hand and pedal-driven machines, FABRIK’s team truly understands and respects the craft – which is done in silence and with attention to detail. “We get excited about keeping heritage technology alive – the kind of stuff other printers got rid of long ago. However, it doesn’t really matter whether we’re talking vintage letterpress or modern offset – what we care about is producing really beautiful objects. In everything to do, we aim to combine the two things that matter: craft and creativity”, FABRIK writes.

Besides having 16 pairs of hands to get their jobs ready in time, the team at FABRIK works with a range of different printing processes, including offset, digital print, and letterpress. “We’re ready and waiting to thread, bind, guillotine, stitch, stencil, perforate your project, whatever it might be. Plus there are all kinds of manual finishing techniques that we can offer if you’re after something unique and artisanal. In case you’re as into printing specs as we are, here’s a list of our actual kit: KBA 50×70, Heidelberg Tiegel, Muller Martini, Exact, Karl Krause Leipzig, & Polar… plus a CNC paper router for creating prototypes.”

Having crafted beautiful paper goods for over 100 clients, including giants such as Peroni, Nivea, Nescafe, Absolut Vodka, Adobe, Siemens, and Nestle, as well as some cultural institutions including Tokyo’s Konnyakuza Opera Theatre and Romania’s national stand at the 53rd Venice Art Biennale, only to name a few, FABRIK has around a 1000 projects “zipping out of our printing house doors every year.”

On top of FABRIK’s day-to-day activities, and printing books, magazines, and stationery products for their clients, the independent printing house brings their own creative ideas to life by producing beautifully crafted limited edition notebooks, wrapping paper, and stationery for individuals that like to draw, write or keep things organized

FABRIK’s online shop is filled with beautiful stationery, crafted from the best design papers and printed and bound by traditional techniques. From classic notebooks and sketchbooks to postcard sets and boxes, each product is thought out and created with talent and dedication to the craft. Among the selection, you can find two notebook sets utilizing Neobond®, a synthetic water-resistant and tear-proof paper that has a unique waxy leatherlike haptic that makes for a great first impression (previously written about here).

The limited edition “RFLX” Notebook Set is a set of four notebooks, each with a unique cover, describing a network of lines that rotate 3 degrees from one copy to another and a selection of letters that revolve in isometric space. As the North acts on the needle of a compass, the facets of the letters influence the angle of the lines.
