Romanian illustrator, graphic designer, and artist Andreea Cristina is currently living in Hamburg, where she runs her one-woman creative studio SUMMERKID. A unique name which is there to remind her to never forget the main reason she started it is to keep alive the enthusiasm she had in the summer vacations as a kid, waking up super early to go play, draw, invent and build things. Having studied graphic design at UNArte Bucharest and illustration and typography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, her main focus is on illustration while also working in digital and print design.
Her brightly colored cheerful work inspired by the surreality of everyday life has that certain joie de vivre that only a kid has. Depicting chubby characters full of life and movement Summerkid’s work is rich in details, nuances, and humor. The vibrant and slightly naive color palette, together with an abstract style build of minimalist shapes and elements creates a unique playful, happy-go-lucky style.
