Anouk Vigneau’s Experimental Paper Laboratory: Kauri Paper Studio

Kauri Paper Studio acts as the creative laboratory of Anouk Vigneau, where the freelance artist experiments with paper in all imaginable ways and styles. After graduating from the Ecole Supérieure des Arts de Saint-Luc in Tournai (BE), Vigneau founded Kauri Paper Studio in 2019.

Vigneay creates both unique paper artworks, as well as commercial commissions for set designs, photo booth backdrops, wall decorations, window displays, as well as photoshoot props. The artist manipulates paper by folding, cutting, gluing, and working using various tools and devices that offer the needed dexterity and delicacy to create the detailed work she is known for. Vigneay’s work often plays in all three dimensions, as the artist like’s to add volume and body, the often medium often regarded as one-dimensional and restrictive.

Paper art consists of giving volume to the paper. It’s a material I like to work with because it’s simple, ordinary, and modular while allowing original and playful creations

“Paper art consists of giving volume to the paper. It’s a material I like to work with because it’s simple, ordinary, and modular while allowing original and playful creations”, explains Vigneau in an interview with 76 actu. “For origami example, you only use a single sheet of paper to make an object, while I intervene on the paper with scalpels and tools to create patterns and shapes.”
