Good City Kids Branding By Sasyk Mihal Plays With Typography And Analog Photography

Prague-based designer and art director Sasyk Mihal works with clients worldwide on projects ranging from brand identities to typography, strategy, packaging, and advertising. The designer’s distinctive style and imaginative approach have led him to work for giants such as Apple, Google, Netflix, and now for Good City Kids, a new online marketplace for art and design.

The minimal concept relies on strong typography that combines various typographic designs

Good City Kids, formerly known as Les Autres, has gone through a transformation from a LA design store into an explorative retail platform that provides emerging artists and designers all over the world a space through which to sell their goods and artworks. As part of the transformation, a fresh rebranding was needed, and the task was given to Mihal, who has named the project “a dream collaboration” (interview, It’s Nice That

The tricky part of redesigning such a branding concept comes from creating something that doesn’t clash with the wide range of artistic styles and designs sold on the platform. The design needs to act as an umbrella for the other brands and bring a cohesive, unifying feel to the platform. “We created a simple yet unique branding, which can work across a wide range of media and platforms, by using minimal typography and color palette combined with the unique wordmark, monogram, and fun photography showing people, city, and more”, Mihal says.

We created a simple yet unique branding, which can work across a wide range of media and platforms, by using minimal typography and color palette combined with the unique wordmark, monogram, and fun photography showing people, city, and more.

The very minimal branding concept relies on strong typography, combining a wordmark that Mihal custom designed based on the Kormelink typeface by Wise Type, with both serif, and sans serif fonts: Cigars and Nuckle by Heavyweight Type Foundry. The wordmark is also used as a monogram over analog photography showcasing city life, kids, and the lifestyle the brand represents. The Good City Kids branding concept builds a solid, contemporary foundation for the other brands to shine.
