Pantone’s Color Of The Year 2019 Is A Vibrant, Life-affirming Living Coral

Around this time, each year, Pantone announces their official choice of color for the upcoming year, and each year it creates much interest and excitement. According to Pantone, 2019 will be the year of Living Coral, more precisely known as PANTONE 16-1546. The vibrant, yet mellow pinkish tone offers warmth and comfort in the tumultuous, ever-changing environment we live in.

“In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression,” Pantone wrote in its announcement.

The peachy pink with a golden undertone, Living Coral represents the fusion of modern life. A color that appears in our natural surroundings, and at the same time displays a lively presence within social media. A life-affirming color that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.

The vibrant, attention seeking color calls attention to the rapidly disappearing coral reefs around the world. “In its glorious, yet unfortunately more elusive, display beneath the sea, this vivifying and effervescent color mesmerizes the eye and mind. Lying at the center of our naturally vivid and chromatic ecosystem, Living Coral is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of color,” they further explained.

We for one are looking forward to seeing how the color will be welcomed by the creative scene, and if the amount of buzz and debate it has created since it was announced is anything to go by, get ready to see Living Coral everywhere from now on!
