Shopping & Cycling With the Saddle Bag Made of Cardboard

We are all enjoying the sunny weather in Vienna at the moment: The flowers and trees are blooming, the city is filled with happy people and the bicycles have taken the streets. The perfect time to launch a saddle bag for the bike which helps you transport your groceries on the bicycle. Christian Steiner und Beatrice Stude designed a functional and environmentally friendly saddle bag made entirely of cardboard in cooperation with Austrian supermarket chain SPAR.

Many Viennese and Austrians, in general, use the bicycle as their main means of transport during the warm months: they ride to work, to a beer with their friends in the evening, cruise along the Danube on the weekends and use it to do their grocery shopping. As the bike basket often does not offer enough space you can observe many people attaching grocery bags to their handlebars or even hold some items under their arms, which is not super safe.

To solve this problem Christian Steiner und Beatrice Stude came up with a saddle bag made of cardboard with two separate compartments which can be attached to the bicycle rack. The bag is not only functional but also environmentally friendly as it can be reused multiple times and can be entirely recycled. Since the bag can also be carried in your hand, it makes the use plastic bags obsolete. Just be aware, it is not rainproof.

You can buy the bag in all SPAR supermarkets in Vienna and in selected shops in Lower Austria for 2€ a piece. Depending on its success, the company will consider to offer the bag also in other regions. We love the idea! What do you think?Bicycle_Spar
