Besides his commercial projects, Gildersleeve explores ideas and themes of his own, creating new bodies of work for shows and exhibitions, and collaborating with other artists. Additionally to his successful career as a paper illustrator and artist, his first book Paper Cut was published in 2014. The book celebrates the skilled creative practices of 25 leading papercraft artists from around the world through a series of in-depth interviews carried out by the artist over the course of a year. Obviously extremely passionate about his craft, Gildersleeve’s work has been described as meticulous, communicative, and uplifting, all characteristics evident in his work. Often working in a wide range of bright colors, the recurring element in his work is layers, and the various ways and imaginative forms he uses to achieve the wanted results.
