Moving Ideas For Sustainability – Blum’s Sustainability Brochure

Blum is the world’s leading furniture fittings and hardware manufacturer for modern kitchens and living environments, hailing from the heart of the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. The family-owned company founded in 1952 holds sustainability as one of its core values, bringing environmental protection and incentives to preserve natural resources to the forefront of its strategy.

To bring even more sustainability to their working environment and products, Blum works tirelessly to identify both big and small changes they can make. With their new Sustainability Brochure being one.

“With our activities, we take responsibility for preserving the natural foundations of life for future generations. Therefore, it was important for us to make our goals and fields of action transparent: We have succeeded in doing this with the brochure and can thus demonstrate our measures to our customers and partners, lead the way with best practice examples, and drive forward new projects.” Samuel Dürr, public relations and part of the Blum sustainability team writes.

The 80-page sustainability brochure was designed by the agency Baschnegger Ammann Partner (BAP), with the data and texts prepared by Blum’s sustainability team. “Together we created a measure that corresponds to our efforts.” Dürr writes. The brochure, with a beautiful blind embossed cover and open thred stitching in Blum’s orange, demonstrates and visualizes the various small and large ideas, improvements, and initiatives through which Blum is actively contributing to building a better future – and actively helping to reach the United Nations’ 1.5-degree goal. Baschnegger Ammann Partner crafted a distinct sustainability logo for the brochure, as well as the numerous illustrations and infographics inside. To highlight the company’s actions towards sustainability, the brochure is printed on ecological Crush Cocoa and PERGRAPHICA® Natural Rough design papers

With Blum’s notable goals towards a more sustainable future, it comes as no surprise that the team opted to utilize Crush Cocoa 350g/m2 (previously here) for the cover – and PERGRAPHICA® Natural Rough 120g/m2 (previously here) for the inner pages of the brochure. Both papers were chosen specifically for their environmental and sustainable qualities.

The upcycled and eco-friendly Crush design paper range by the Italian paper manufacturer Favini uses process residues from organic products to replace up to 15% of virgin tree pulp, with the exquisite Crush Cacao utilizing explicitly by-products of chocolate production, stimulating a multisensory experience. While the uncoated fine paper range PERGRAPHICA® has earned the coveted Cradle to Cradle® certificate at the Bronze level, advancing from linear into the circular economy. The Cradle to Cradle®  certificate aims to ensure that products are manufactured in a safe, circular, and responsible manner and have the most positive effect on the environment.
