A type foundry is a company that designs and or distributes typefaces. Before the digitalization of typography with computer graphics, type foundries manufactured metal and wood typefaces for hand typesetting for letterpress printers. Since the ’80s typography has grown to have a strong artistic and aesthetic value, becoming an important tool for designers and printers, now being one of the main elements designers consider in contemporary graphic design.
